Registration

Registration

Attendees need to have registered & paid by the end of Thursday 20th February – it will not be possible to pay on the day.

Registration will be at 10:15. Please be prompt, we want to get into the course itself as soon as possible.

Course Preparation

You should read the rules before you come on the course. There is a theory test at the end, and you will probably not pass unless you have done some work beforehand – not every answer is covered in the course!

We play to World Lacrosse (WL) rules – here is a link to the latest version

As a minimum, I recommend to first scan through them; then read again, taking some notes. Pay particular attention to which fouls are technical, which are personal, and to the refereeing signals for each.

If you have time it would also be helpful to look at the Officiating Manual - read 7.3 (Uniform & Equipment) and briefly section 8 (Positioning) but don't get too deep into the detail, as we will be using 2-man mechanics rather the 3-man they describe.

Things to bring;

  • Pen / pencil & paper
  • Lunch
  • If possible could you bring a stick – not essential, but would be helpful to have one or two sticks in the room to illustrate points of the rules, face-offs etc.

Format of the day

  • Overview of the rules
  • Video on approach to officiating, positioning and what it means to be a lacrosse referee
  • Outside on a field to illustrate referee positioning & movement when working as part of a two-man crew
  • Also outside – face-offs, goal-crease, privileges of the goalkeeper
  • The day will end with an opportunity to take the Level 1 Refereeing Theory test - format is multi choice exam.

We will stop occasionally for comfort breaks, and take a break of at least 30 minutes for lunch.

The event will be informal and questions are encouraged.

If you need to get in touch prior to the day you can contact me on referees@lacrossescotland.com

I look forward to seeing you at the course.
